Citizens of the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan can stay in the Schengen Area (which includes Italy) visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period.
Your passport should be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen Area — airlines can refuse boarding otherwise.
ETIAS (the EU’s new travel authorisation for visa-exempt nationalities) has been announced but its start date has shifted before — check the official ETIAS site before you fly.
If your nationality isn’t listed, apply for a Schengen visa at the nearest Italian consulate well before you travel; requirements and processing times vary by country.
