Things to Do in the Madonie Mountains
The Madonie is Sicily's second-highest range, inland from Cefalù and reached by a 20-30 minute drive up into stone villages like Castelbuono and Petralia Soprana. Jeep tours, hiking and food stops built around local hazelnuts and manna — the sap tapped from ash trees here, a genuine regional product — are what actually gets booked, not headline sights. It's a cooler counterpoint to the coast in summer, but roads are narrow and winding, so hire a driver if you're not used to mountain routes.
