Things to Do in Ragusa & Modica
Ragusa splits into two levels — the newer upper town and Ragusa Ibla below, rebuilt in baroque stone after 1693 and connected by steps rather than a single easy street. Modica, about 15 minutes away, makes chocolate by a cold-processed method with Aztec roots, still sold gritty and unrefined at shops worth a genuine tasting stop, not just a souvenir buy. Scicli, the third of this trio, is smaller and quieter and doubles as a filming location for Italian TV, so expect fewer crowds but the same warm-stone baroque look.
